JUSTICE FOR COLUMBIA

The Socialist Labour Party Wales is proud to be hosting a meeting in Wrexham for a leading South American Human Rights Campaigner Ana Lucia Pinzon.

She is the leader of the Colombian public sector workers’ trade union Fenaltrase, Columbia's third-largest trade union.  Tragically, many of its members have been assassinated in recent years. Ms Pinzon is the survivor of an assassination attempt in 2001, when she was shot twice in the back,

An economist by training, she worked as an auditor before becoming a full-time union officer and human rights campaigner.  She is Columbia's most senior female trade unionist.

Other speakers will be:-

Genny Bove of Wrexham Peace and Justice Forum and Wrexham Women for Peace. She is a well known  environmental campaigner and was recently arrested for taking four plastic chairs from a recycling centre;

Liz Screen, Wales secretary of the Socialist Labour Party who hopes to persuade the audience that they should never again buy Coco Cola;

and

Steve Ryan of Wrexham Trades Council

Ms Pinzon is on a not-to-be-missed whistle-stop 3-week tour of the UK as the guest of Justice for Columbia (www.justiceforcolumbia.org).  While here, she will also speak at a major event in the Welsh Assembly, and will also meet with MPs to update them on the Columbian situation.  She is scheduled to participate in the conferences of the GMB, CWU, UNITE and UNISON, and will also speak at the SERTUC international conference.
